I’ve been land-lubbin’ for quite some time due to rain and runoff.  Today was the first all-clear since we went out two Sundays ago when I took my new fish out for the first time.  Actually yesterday was the all-clear, but I tried to wait out the tide and before I made my move the [...]

Jaws is a legendary wave on the north shore of Maui. Home of tow-in surfing. Wave faces up to 70′ tall. Elusive. This past December, the conditions lined up as a mammoth swell passed through the islands, producing amazing sets of monster waves. The world watched as top surfers braved fast, steep faces. Everyone has [...]

A week’s worth of storms have passed and just as the 72 hour post-rain window is about to open a new storm looms on the horizon.  What’s a surfer to do to stave off the cabin-fever, the wave-shakes?  Watch movies.  Along with watching Picaresque twice, I watched a new one called Lines From A Poem.  [...]

Chasing Dora was a movie of the week on The Surf Network a while back.  As always, I see most surf movies as “well, that’s worth $7 to see.”  Sometimes that turns out to be true, sometimes not.  This time, it totally was.  While Chasing Dora is not the kind of surf film that you’ll [...]

On Saturday I had one of the best surf sessions I’ve ever had.  On Sunday I had one of the poorest sessions ever.  (Granted I didn’t break any bones or boards, but as far as surfing went, it stunk (totally my fault).)  So, naturally I started comparing and contrasting both days curious to figure out [...]

Oh, man.  I did not recapture yesterday’s glory.  I think I was still too pooped from the marathon session Josh, Uzair and I had.  I started out just south of the pier and right from the get-go my shoulders started burning.  And by the time I was right in the drop zone, I was out [...]

How to even find the words to describe today’s surf session?  It was easily one of the best sessions I’ve ever had.  I was trying to remember other sessions that could compare.  (Two came to mind: 1. the super foggy day at el porto a few months ago and 2. a trip Josh and I [...]

Paddled out today.  Only have a moment to write about it.  Occasional big sets, but even the small sets in between were strong and fun.  Had loads of great rights (and no lefts).  Not quite epic, but oh, so much fun.

Had a great session at the Huntington Pier today.  The only thing keeping it from being epic was the crowds.  Had the traffic been lower, it could have been a truly epic day.  I’m not complaining, mind you – I nabbed four waves in particular that will be logged away for a long time as [...]
