El Porto Fridays Rss

About Us

El Porto Fridays is a surf blog at its core. But beyond journaling our surfing sessions, it contains review and critiques from the surf world. We review surfing gear that we have used and tested. We report on on surf films, screening and release parties. We have details of breaks we’ve been have been to and surfed including parking, directions, hazards and more. We have basic surf etiquette to help even the newbiest newb avoid being a kook. And we have surf lingo so you know if you are a newb or kook.

So, what does El Porto Fridays even mean?  We are all scattered around LA and Orange County and surf our own breaks most of the week. But we all get together every Friday (weather permitting) and surf at El Porto in Manhattan Beach, because surfing the worst day with friends is ten times better than surfing the best day alone. (More importantly, we go out for some delicious breakfast afterward.)  So surfing El Porto on Fridays kind of serves as the linchpin around which all our surfing hangs.  It is where we swap surf stories from the rest of the week, we show off our new boards and catch up on each other happenings.

Stay stoked.

El Porto Fridays - JeffJeff - Jeff has been surfing consistently for the better part of this current glorious millennium. He surfed some with Josh in high school, but then went to college in northern California and did not dare brave the cold.  But after graduation he moved back to the southern California coast in Surf City, USA and decided to pick up surfing again with the zealotry of a English football hooligan.  By trade he is a web designer and a huge WordPress advocate (which powers elportofridays.com).  Along with surfing he is also a backpacker/hiker when the surf is down and euro gamer when the sun is down.

Comrade BurgerAaron – Aaron grew up in St. Louis.  Among his many talents, he was an avid skateboarder for many years while living relatively landlocked.  Later on he wisley moved to California.  Josh (see below) convinced Aaron to come out and try surfing a few years ago.  Aaron was bitten by the surf bug right away, and has been a steady El Portoer ever since. (Be sure to tease him about the pink wax on his boards.)  When not riding waves Aaron is working on his feature film The Diamonds of Metro Valley, a live-action/animation extravaganza with a pumping funky soundtrack.

Comrade BurgerMike – Mike is our resident newb. He started surfing seriously mere months ago. But he was bitten by the bug in a big way.  Now he usually gets out more times a week than the rest of us and is progressing at a phenomenal rate. (Soon he’ll be the resident pro.) He’s also a big tech geek, especially when it comes to cameras, photography and film. He is also a king tinkerer, always working on sweet do-it-yourself style projects which you can follow on his DO IT blog.
